&Daughter is a heirloom knitwear company from the UK founded by Fashion Publicist Buffy Reid and her Father Columba in 2013. The name &Daughter comes from an idea that a love for something is inherited from previous generations. First, her Irish Grandmother, a skilled knitter, who then passed her expertise and devotion on to her Father. Columba dedicated his life to Irish and Scottish knitwear of unparalleled quality and was a wholesaler of Donegal tweeds and Arans. Using many of the same Artisans and Mills that her Father did, Reid honours the history and traditions of her family, the factories and of the industry.
&Daughter works with factories in the UK and Ireland, they maintain close relationships with their partners who are also small, independent businesses. By exclusively using makers based locally &Daughter ensures that the environmental impact is minimal. 90% of their wool is sustainably certified by Responsible Wool Standard (RWS) or RSPCA approved. Environmentally friendly washing processes are used throughout the entire production allowing the Spinners in Loch Leven Scotland to return the water to the Loch after it has been used.
All &Daughter yarns are 100% natural and spun in the UK and Ireland. Featuring 5 different yarns, the 2025 AW season highlights Geelong Wool and Cashmere. Geelong Wool, one of the softest lambswool, is often likened to cashmere. Originally deriving from Australia, only a very small percentage of Merino sheep can be classified as Geelong Wool. This ultra-fine and non-allergenic wool provides extraordinary warmth, breathability and durability. Cashmere is the downy undercoat of a Kashmir goat that lays beneath a coarser protective layer. Ethical cashmere is gathered during a molting season and is combed or plucked by hand, this time consuming process ensures the highest quality material is preserved. Cashmere is light, warm, and soft, and due it its fine nature, has impeccable draping qualities.
Prioritizing making the best product, in the best way, is a slow process. Knitwear is produced by a traditional technique of “fully-fashioning” meaning each garment is knit individually, joined together and finished by hand. In paying attention to the details this ensures each garment is as strong as possible, maintains shape over time, and mitigates against tear.
