Did you run a 5k and get a t-shirt for participating? Did you get a STAFF shirt when you volunteered at a school event? Did those t-shirts eventually make their way into your “donate” pile? These types of shirts are abundant and have almost no value on the secondhand market. Carleen wanted to find a way to use (a small portion of) them to make something they would love to wear.
String piecing (also called improvisational piecing) involves sewing fabric strips together (often leftover scraps from other projects). The results are irregular, which is part of the charm! This dress is a slouchy, straight column with short sleeves. The primary colors are red and grey, but it is also accented with tan and blue. Due to the nature of vintage fabrics used, variations between each may occur.
